How to make a 3000x3000 album cover

  1. Start with your original artwork

Add a JPG, PNG or WebP from your device. Use a sharp, high-resolution master with enough room for a square crop. A small screenshot or compressed social image is a poor starting point for release artwork.

  2. Frame the cover

Choose Crop for an edge-to-edge square and adjust the focus to keep the title and subject visible. Choose Contain to keep the entire design with a background around it. Preview the lettering and edges before exporting.

  3. Download and review

Export an exact 3000 × 3000 JPG or PNG. Choose JPG for a DistroKid submission and a solid background for artwork with transparent areas. Open the saved file and check it against your distributor’s current delivery requirements.

Platform requirements

Spotify, Apple Music and DistroKid cover art size

These services publish different guidelines. Match the file to the service receiving your release, and keep your high-resolution original for other delivery sizes. Official guidance checked September 12, 2026.

Spotify cover art size

Spotify specifies a 1:1 square between 640 and 10000 pixels per side. A 3000 × 3000 cover fits that size range. It also asks for the highest available resolution, sRGB color and lossless encoding, and says not to upscale images. Our JPG export uses lossy compression; PNG is the lossless export option. This tool does not certify every delivery specification. See Spotify’s official cover art requirements.

Apple Music cover art size

Apple Music for Artists lists square artwork of at least 4000 × 4000 pixels, in JPG, PNG or GIF format. This tool’s fixed 3000 × 3000 output is below that published size. Prepare a larger master in your artwork editor and confirm your distributor’s requirements. See Apple Music’s official cover art guidelines.

DistroKid cover art size

DistroKid recommends 3000 × 3000 square artwork, with a minimum of 1000 × 1000 pixels. It asks for JPG and RGB color. Use the JPG export here, then check the actual saved file before submitting. See DistroKid’s official artwork requirements.

Keep the cover readable at every size

Album artwork is often seen as a small thumbnail before anyone opens it at full size. Check that the main subject remains recognizable and that the title does not disappear into a busy background. Leave room around lettering so a square crop does not cut off the artist name or release title.

Crop trims the outside of a rectangular design without stretching it. Contain keeps the full image but adds space around it. Choose a background that belongs with the artwork; if the result feels like a photo pasted onto a square, revisit the original layout before delivery.

Use a source whose retained crop has enough pixels for the export. Making a file larger cannot restore lost detail. For Spotify preparation, return to a larger original instead of upscaling a low-resolution cover.

Check your album cover before submitting

  • Open the download and confirm that both dimensions are 3000 pixels, when that is the size your distributor asks for.
  • Inspect at full size for blurred lettering, compression artifacts and accidental cropping, then check it as a thumbnail.
  • Confirm the file format, color requirements and file-size limit in your delivery service. A pixel count is not a file-size limit.
  • Review your distributor’s content rules. DistroKid flags items such as URLs, QR codes, prices and streaming-service logos.
  • Keep the original design and verify that you have the necessary rights to the artwork. This converter changes the image; it does not approve a release.

Common questions

Album cover preparation FAQ

Does Spotify require exactly 3000x3000 cover art?

No. Spotify lists a square aspect ratio and dimensions from 640 to 10000 pixels on each side. 3000x3000 falls within that range, but dimensions alone do not establish compliance. Check the format, color and quality rules for your delivery route.

What is the DistroKid cover art size?

DistroKid recommends a square 3000x3000 image and lists a 1000x1000 minimum. Its artwork guidance asks for a JPG in RGB color space. Review the final file and the current upload requirements before submitting.

Is 3000x3000 enough for Apple Music cover art?

Apple Music for Artists currently specifies at least 4000x4000 pixels. This converter exports only 3000x3000, so it does not meet that published size guideline. Keep a larger master and confirm delivery requirements with your distributor.

Can I enlarge a small cover for Spotify?

The tool can enlarge an image, but it cannot recreate missing detail. Spotify explicitly advises against upscaling. Use an original with enough resolution for the final square instead of enlarging a small cover to meet a pixel target.

Will resizing fix a rejected album cover?

Only if the relevant issue is the image dimensions or composition. Resizing does not check artwork rights, prohibited text, release metadata or every technical delivery rule. Review the rejection reason before changing the image.

Are my unreleased covers uploaded or watermarked?

No. Conversion happens locally in your browser. You can preview and download your cover for free, without an account or an added watermark.
